Yeah, I figured I haven't seen a User Manual since Office They are basically online when you press Help Short of buying one at your local bookstore I can't think of another way I think it would be a good idea for Microsoft to put out User's Manuals in. I am a reader and a detailed learner. It takes me two or more passes at learning something. It seems like making a new Windows 8 and Office user purchase a User's Manual from a third party is not the epitome of customer service.
Windows 8 is such a departure from Windows of the past 95, , XP user here it would be very comforting to have a manual to refer too. Thank for allowing me the opportunity to make this suggestion. Yes it would be a good idea for MS to include user guides with their product. But they stopped doing that more than a decade ago. It is "too expensive" to ship paper guides to every customer.
MS expects you to use the built in "help" function. Which I have found to be less and less satisfactory with each new version. It is kinda ok if you have an idea of what you are looking for, but not as a primary learning resource.
NOTE: when looking for training manuals and guides, don't overlook documentation for older versions of the product. Most MS product development is "evolutionary" rather than "revolutionary". I want to clarify - I thought it would be nice for the owner's manual to be an electronic version - not paper. I have downloaded the start guides for the software I will be using and go from there. I am sure I will use the information you have provided as an additional resource. Microsoft help has steadily depreciated. Like most users here, we would like a comprehensive electronic manual that can be effectively used for systematically learning how to use the product.
Furthermore, a comprehensive manual can be used for looking up specific subject matter after the initial learning process. Old paper manuals too expensive? We'll settle for a PDF. After all, you have most the information online, but have stolen the table of contents required to navigate it in the traditional fashion!
The current Microsoft help systems are atrocious at best. We almost exclusively resort to Google , Bing , or other search engines, over Microsoft help. Researching subjects on other search engines generally returns much better results including Microsoft links , than does Microsoft itself. Would you agree with some of these observations?
