Full drive encryption usually runs silently in the background without user intervention. You just have to turn it on. The more I dig into this, the more puzzled I get. See this Ars Technica article. Just select it, then click on the Turn on button to encrypt the device. If you have not got any option like this then try other free Bitlocker alternatives. GNU Privacy Guard is an open-source encryption software that uses the command-line interface. It is available on both Windows 10 and OS X.

Frankly speaking, the command line interface is the only drawback of this tool. There is no proper GUI to use the software. Just like other encryption software, GNU provides full disk protection as well as protection of partitions and individual files. The only need is the decryption password.

I did a clone of the disk of the old laptop to put on new laptop. My old drive has a C drive and a D Drive. Accessing the C drive is fine but for some reason the D drive is bitlocked. So, my issue is that every time I reboot the laptop and then I try to access the D drive, I have to keep inputing a Bitlocker key.

I've researched on this site, but there is no solution cause the folks who have a similar issue. The thread keeps getting closed for some reason even though there hasn't been a solution.
